Her son was a war hero, survived his tours of duty unscathed. An upstanding boy, an upstanding serviceman.
At age 33, father to two sons, he was killed on his doorstep in Chicago.

“My son didn’t know not to fight.”
The killer was found. The killer is on trial. She goes to court, two or three times each month. She wants justice. But her son is gone.
“At every hearing, his mama gets to hug him,” she says. “It’s not fair.”
She considers.
“But she’s not the one who pulled the trigger.”
